Main cost items
Tiling: The biggest single item — in a bathroom we tile all walls and the floor. Labour: 16,000–35,000 Ft/m² (materials extra). A 5 m² bathroom can have 25–30 m² of total tile area.
Plumbing and sanitaryware: Replacing old pipes and fitting new sanitaryware: HUF 200,000–500,000 (depending on fixtures).
Electrical: Wet-room compliant electrical installation is mandatory. HUF 80,000–200,000.
Plasterboard, screed: If walls or floor need replacement: HUF 100,000–250,000.
How long does it take?
A typical bathroom (5–6 m²) takes 10–16 working days: demolition (1–2 days), plumbing and electrical (2–3 days), tiling (3–5 days), sanitaryware, painting, finishing (2–3 days). With parallel trades this can be shorter.
Material selection tips
For bathroom tiles: slip resistance class (R9–R11 for floors), grout water resistance, and sanitaryware warranty period are the most important factors. Aesthetics matter, but durability comes first.

Cosmetic work — replacing tiles and fixtures — generally doesn't require a permit. Removing walls or relocating plumbing or gas pipes may require one. Always consult before starting structural changes.
Porcelain is denser, less water-absorbent, and more durable — ideal for floors and wet rooms. Ceramic is cheaper and easier to install, excellent for walls. For floors, always choose R9 or higher slip resistance.
Typically 10–15% on materials. However, quantities and dimensions must exactly match the quote — any mismatch means the contractor cannot take responsibility for fit or finish.
